SilverSneakers® is a new program at X Shadyside. Classes will be starting in January!

SilverSneakers® is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. X Shadyside offers this award-winning program to people who are eligible for Medicare or to group retirees.

What benefits do SilverSneakers® receive?

SilverSneakers® offers many benefits including:

  • a gym membership that includes access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment and other available amenities.
  • customized SilverSneakers® classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.
  • health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
  • a specially trained Senior Adviser at the fitness center to introduce you to SilverSneakers® and help you get started.
  • member-only access to online support that can help you lose weight, quit smoking or reduce your stress.

What SilverSneakers® classes do you offer?

SilverSneakers® I Muscular Strength & Range of Movement

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® II Cardio Circuit

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.
