Whether you have a child who plays for a club soccer team or you are a seasoned athlete yourself, it’s crucial to get your regular strength and conditioning sessions in. This is especially important during the off-season. During this time, you can maintain your athletic prowess and also increase your performance levels for the regular season. 

You can work out alone or with a small group, but you probably won’t get the challenge or results you need to stay in tip-top shape without a professional trainer. What is PerformX?

So, what happens during a PerformX class? Each class is designed to enhance your performance while also reducing your chances of becoming injured. Your trainer will focus on:

  • Agility
  • Speed
  • Quickness
  • Functional strength
  • Dynamic posture
  • Power
  • Cardiovascular endurance

When properly addressed through a systematic and adaptive approach, these focuses can help you reach optimal performance levels. Whether you’re a beginner or elite athlete, you will find yourself challenged throughout each class and eager to go back for more. 

Trainers

All PerformX coaches are certified personal trainers. Using their extensive knowledge of strength and conditioning, they will push you to your limits and help you make GREAT gains. Working with a professional trainer will also:

  • Decrease your risk of injury
  • Increase your strength, speed, and endurance
  • Help you stay safe while training

Sessions

Working with a busy schedule? No worries. X Shadyside currently offers 17 training sessions throughout the week, including Saturdays. We can also host special team training sessions at either the gym or onsite at your practice facility. Our athletes typically prefer team training sessions, as it gives them the opportunity to focus on their team’s collective strengths and weaknesses.

Team Training

While you can come to class alone or with a few friends, you also have the opportunity to train with your whole team at X Shadyside. Alternatively, we can also come to YOU. 

Whatever choice you decide to make, you will probably find it much more effective and enjoyable to train with your teammates. You will have a strong support system behind you who will hold you accountable, encourage you, and keep you motivated throughout each class. Training together will also help you build unity among your teammates. Working through touch classes and learning new exercises often encourages teammates to bond and focus on achieving a team goal together. 

Tips for Off-Season Training

You don’t want to overextend yourself during the off-season, but you don’t want to take it too easy either

When it comes to off-season training, you want to strike the right balance between taking the necessary time to rest and preventing yourself from losing strength and focus. Most athletes start the off-season with a short period of rest

Without settling into a short rest period, you are increasing your risk of experiencing injury and burn-out. You need to give your body time to heal and your mind the chance to rest from being constantly occupied with all sport-related things from the previous season. 

Practicing “Active Rest”

When discussing “rest,” we don’t mean you should sit on your sofa for hours-on-end and fill yourself with unhealthy snacks and drinks. Instead, you should focus on practicing “active rest.” During this period, you can try light exercises that counter the ones you typically focus on during the season. So if you typically work on strength exercises and weight training, you can try light cardio exercises like biking or swimming. This lets you stay active without overexerting yourself. 

Setting Goals

During the off-season, you should come up with a goal to accomplish. This helps you stay motivated and focused throughout these weeks. Maybe you want to work on your mile time or hit a new PR on your deadlifts. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s related to your sport. 

Staying Consistent

Instead of trying to fit in training whenever you happen to have time, you should create a workout schedule and stick to it. If your team already follows an organized workout plan, great! If not, consider reaching out to X Shadyside to schedule some PerformX classes for the whole team.
